You get to create your own web page with your picture to describe the education you are registering for, and the details of the upcoming wedding, birth, graduation or birthday that will remain active for at least one year after the event date! • Affordable. There are no fees associated with your Education Registry. You will never be charged a fee and your loved ones will never pay a fee to contribute to your Education Registry. • Convenience for you and your loved ones. We allow you to view and print a list of all gifts received, along with the gift-giver’s names, addresses and amounts contributed for your thank-you notes. Your loved ones can easily announce their contribution on your web page and then give their gift amount to you at your event. • Security. You can rest assured that all of your personal information remains confidential and secure. FAQ What is an Education Registry? The Education Registry is a way for you to ask your friends and family to contribute money towards education. More and more couples are living together before marriage and already have many of the items that engaged couples would usually register for, but what they really need is money to help build their future. We now know that many students graduate with student loans or they want to go back to school in the future but cannot afford to. We also know that it is never too early to begin saving for your child's education, which is why we also offer a baby registry and child birthday registry. Finally, we have a general event registry option, for graduations, birthdays, or any other event for which you would like to receive the gift of education. We have created this registry as an alternative to the traditional gift registry to help you secure a future without student loan debt for you and/or your children. Because people are hesitant to ask for money on such occasions, and because people tend to want to buy you tangible gifts, this is a way for you to communicate to your friends and family what an education means to you and why this type of registry is so important to you. What types of gifts can we receive from the Education Registry? Your registry will ask friends and family to contribute cash gifts, which you will receive directly from them in whatever form they choose. How do we let loved ones know about the registry? When you create your Education Registry, you can also create your own web page for FREE, where you can upload a picture and let your loved ones know about the details of your event. Your Education Registry will also be on this page. There are two main ways for you to let your loved ones know about your registry. One is by e-mailing them, which is a service we offer to you when you register. You can customize an e-mail to send to all of your friends and family to direct them to your web page on our site to view your registry. Secondly, if you already have an event or personal website, simply add a link on your web page to the Education Registry site, so that they can be directed to your registry. Also, as with any registry, inform your wedding party (for a wedding registry) and your immediate family. These will be the people that your loved ones will call to find out where you have registered. How are gifts received? Contributions are received directly from your loved ones in the form of a check, cash, or however they see appropriate. In order to keep Education Registry as a free service, we have decided not to process credit or debit cards directly. Doing so would mean we would have to charge you or your loved ones a fee. Since the point of the registry is to help you obtain money for your education, we want you to be able to keep all of your money you receive. However, if you would like your loved ones to be able to use debit or credit cards, you can sign up for an account with PayPal. Their transaction fees are very reasonable and you can sign up for a free account in minutes (note you will need a "Premier Account" to accept credit card payments). Then, when you set up your Education Registry, you can send an e-mail announcement to friends and family with the information they need to contribute through PayPal. This is completely up to you and is separate from your Education Registry account. What does an Education Registry look like? You can choose to give as much or little information as you want to your loved ones, including details of your upcoming wedding, birth, showers, birthday, graduation and educational and career history and goals. You can also choose to ask for a general cash donation, or you can specify what you need. How do I access my gift registry? When you register, you choose a username and password for yourself. You can then come back to our site as often as you'd like and enter your username and password to login to your web page to view, change, or update your web page and/or registry, or to view gifts that have been purchased. How much does the Education Registry cost? Your Education Registry is 100% FREE! There is no cost to you or to your loved ones who make a contribution to your registry. We are a free service because we want you to be able to keep all of the money that people donate, to use towards education. Additionally, by not charging a fee to donate, people will be more likely to contribute to your Education Registry. How long can I keep my Education Registry active? You registry will remain active until there has been no activity on your page for a period of one year. How do friends and family members purchase a gift? When your loved ones decide to make a contribution to your Education Registry, they will enter the amount on your registry page that they will contribute, and will then give you the money directly or through a PayPal account that you have set up independently (see above, under How are gifts received?). How do I know when a gift has been purchased? When someone agrees to donate to your Education Registry, they can then choose to post a message on your registry page, announcing their contribution. You will also be able to see when contributions have been made on your registry page, even if the gift-giver chooses to remain anonymous. How do I keep track of the gifts I have received? To keep you organized during this busy time, we set up your registry so that at any time you will be able to view and print a complete list of gift givers, their addresses, and the contribution amounts, for you to use when you are ready to send out those thank-you notes. Can I have an Education Registry and a traditional gift registry? Absolutely! In fact, we encourage it because it gives your loved ones options and allows you to get what you want and need, which is the most important thing! The great thing about doing an Education Registry is that any amount can be contributed as a gift alone, or in addition to another gift. That is why we offer to send your friends and family gift cards that they can attach to other gifts if they so choose. It is important to be aware that when it comes to paying for education, every little bit counts. So even if they buy you a large gift, but still want to contribute a small amount towards your education, they can easily do so! What happens to our personal information?
